"To Life!" A celebration of Vermont Jewish women
From January 14 until March 31, 2010, Vermont's History Museum at 109 State Street in Montpelier is presenting "To Life!" a historic exhibit celebrating the stories of twenty Jewish Vermont women from all walks of life, from age 12 to 101. Each woman's story is illustrated with a large photographic portrait, archival photos, an essay, selected quotes, and anecdotes from each woman. There will also be works of contemporary Vermont Jewish women artists on display.
On January 14 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, the Vermont Historical Society will host an opening reception for the exhibit, featuring its two creators, Ann Buffum and Sandra Gartner. The reception is free and the public is welcome to attend.
In discussing the event, Mark Hudson, the Vermont Historical Society's executive director, said, "These women embody the very essence and spirit that is Vermont. The exhibit documents the impact of these women on their Jewish communities, their hometowns, and the state of Vermont."
At the reception, we will also be celebrating the transition of the Vermont Women's History Project from the Vermont Commission on Women to its new home at the Vermont Historical Society.
