Vermont Historical Society Director Leaving

BARRE:  The executive director of the Vermont Historical Society will leave the Society at the end of October.  Executive Director Kevin Graffagnino has taken a position as the director of the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan.

“The position at the Clements Library is my dream job,” Graffagnino said.  “It’s really the only position that could have pulled me away from Vermont Historical Society and Vermont.”

During Graffagnino’s five years at the Society, the organization has gained stronger financial support, both from the state and from private donors who support 65% of the Society’s budget, and its statewide programs have gained greater visibility.

Society president Sarah Dopp said “We will all miss Kevin, with his deep knowledge of Vermont’s heritage and his excellent administrative skills.”  Dopp stated that the trustees of the Vermont Historical Society have named former trustee Nicholas Ward as Interim Executive Director for the Society.  “Nick is the perfect candidate to fill that role,” Dopp continued, “with his extensive knowledge of Vermont and its history, his business acumen and organizational and development experience.”  Graffagnino agreed, saying that he is looking forward to working with Ward on the transition between now and the end of October, which is when Graffagnino will leave the Society.
